Thermal System Design

Course/Workshop Title: Thermal System Design
Course/Workshop Duration:
Course Overview: This is an introduction course on how thermal systems work. It is a practical approach of many of the mechanical system that relies on thermal energy for many applications within the industries. Thermal energy is the most particular use in many areas and in particular mechanical engineering discipline. Heat and work is the most effective form of energy that can be used or produced in many different ways in order to service and provide the humankind a better and safe life.
These types of systems appear in many industries such as power generation, refrigeration, air conditioning and heating, and in the food, chemical and process industries. The principles of thermodynamic, heat transfer and fluid mechanics must be implemented in order to understand and calculate the performance and efficiency of the thermal system.
This one week workshop in mechanical engineering and it is intended to meet the demand for engineers and technicians who are ready to use and understand how those systems work effectively and efficiently. All classes must be attended at Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University, thermofluids laboratory section.
Expected Learning Outcomes / Competencies By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:
  1. Importance of design in an engineering undertaking
  2. Understand the fundamental principles of thermal systems design
  3. Apply the critical thinking abilities necessary for solving problems and troubleshooting
  4. Awareness of the performance characteristics of such thermal equipment as heat exchanger, pumps, and compressors
  5. Narrowing the gap between knowledge of the individual processes and the integration of these processes in an engineering industries
