Sónia Seixas is a Portuguese national, working as a Assistant Professor in the department of Graphic Design at PMU, KSA.
She received her B.E. degree in Fashion Design and Marketing from the University of Minho, Portugal, in 2010, her M.E. degree in Product Design from the Higher School of Design of IPCA, Portugal, in 2019, and her Ph.D. in Design from the Lisbon School of Architecture of University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 2024.
Sónia Seixas has several years of experience in teaching, research and curriculum development at graduate and undergraduate level. Her teaching career started in 2002 with technological specialisation courses and since then she has taught at different institutions and educational levels. As a designer, she began her career in 1998 working on several projects for the textile and apparel industry.
Sónia Seixas believes that every student has the potential to be an innovative and influential creator in the world of design. Her teaching approach is student-centred and aims to develop not only their technical skills, but also creativity, critical thinking and environmental, cultural and ethical awareness. She recognises the importance of linking design theory to practise so that students understand not only how to execute a project, but also why they make certain design decisions. She believes that design is an ever-evolving discipline and that it is important for students to develop adaptive and resilience skills to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Sónia Seixas has several publications in peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings (https://www.cienciavitae.pt/portal/AD13-A04D-864C). Her research interests include higher education, design education, active teaching-learning methodologies, communication design, textile and fashion design, design philosophy, creative thinking, creative processes and design methods.
Sónia Seixas hopes to contribute to preparing an outstanding young generation of designers who will help shape the future of design in KSA and the region.
