Dr. Hussam Al Qur’an is an Associate Professor in the Department of Graphic Design. He brings over 27 years of multifaceted experience as an educator, industry practitioner, and entrepreneur, positioning him as a significant contributor to the fields of design pedagogy and visual communication.
Academically, Dr. Al Qur’an holds a PhD in Graphic Design & New Media from the University of Wollongong in Australia. His professional ethos is deeply rooted in bridging academic theory with industry practice. This is evidenced by a distinguished career that includes holding key positions at Fortune Promoseven/McCann Erickson and serving as the Head of Production and Creative for the Doha Asian Games Organizing Committee. Further demonstrating his leadership and business acumen, he has successfully founded and co-founded several design firms operating across multiple countries. A testament to his scholarly contribution is his role as the official translator of the widely adopted textbook, "The Fundamentals of Graphic Design," into Arabic, significantly expanding its educational reach. During his tenure at Zarqa University, he translated this extensive real-world expertise into his teaching, leading the Graduation Project course and mentoring over 150 students through project-based learning.
Dr. Al Qur’an’s research is published in esteemed, Scopus-indexed journals, with a focus on critical areas like design education, Arabic typography, and market requirements. His research interests are forward-looking, encompassing AI-driven design, user experience (UX), design thinking, and interdisciplinary design. At PMU, his professional goal is to actively contribute to the university's mission of solution-oriented education and interdisciplinary innovation. He aims to leverage his unique background in academia, industry, and entrepreneurship to establish a robust research agenda that aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, fostering a new generation of innovative, industry-ready designers.
